Discover the Kawai Novus NV-6 – a hybrid piano that combines the authenticity of an acoustic instrument with cutting-edge digital technology. It offers new sounds based on Kawai concert grand pianos such as the Shigeru Kawai Concert Grand and the Competition Grand. The redesigned transducer soundboard technology ensures an even more authentic sound experience. The Millennium III action, familiar from the Kawai K-series pianos, with real wood keys and an Ivory Touch surface, offers a realistic playing feel. The integrated USB audio/MIDI interface allows direct sound transmission to a computer or mobile device – ideal for recording and online lessons.

A hybrid instrument that delivers the true acoustic piano experience

Featuring Kawai's high-performance Millennium III Hybrid piano action with real damper mechanism, SK-EX Rendering Piano sound module, and unique soundboard speaker system, the Novus NV6 offers true acoustic piano authenticity in a stunning, ultra-slim digital instrument.

Millennium III hybrid mechanics

Based on the proven 'K' series action design, the Millennium III Hybrid retains the composite parts and extended keysticks of its acoustic counterpart, while replacing the traditional felt hammers with individually weighted ABS equivalents.

As a hybrid piano, the Novus doesn't have metal strings that are physically struck by these hammers when the keys are played. Instead, their precise movements are recorded with high-resolution optical sensors mounted above the action.

The Millennium III Hybrid offers all the advantages of a premium Kawai piano action in a digital instrument. This technical feat allows pianists to enjoy the unparalleled feel of an acoustic piano, regardless of the time of day or the size of their home.

ABS hybrid hammers

The Novus NV6's precision-engineered ABS hammers are designed for structural stability and optimal key response.

Each individual hammer is gradually weighted to mirror the heavier bass and lighter treble hammers of an acoustic piano, ensuring that the NV6's key weight feels like that of a well-regulated acoustic instrument.

Optical hammer sensors

The precise movements of each hammer are measured using high-resolution optical sensors that provide greater accuracy than conventional button-based sensor systems.

This more advanced approach accurately reproduces the mechanical action of an acoustic piano and allows fast pianissimo passages with mordents or trills to be performed more smoothly.

Unprecedented realism

The Novus does not have any metal strings that require physical damping, as the instrument's sound is generated digitally.

However, to reproduce every aspect of playing an acoustic piano, the NV6 retains the damper mechanism behind the keyboard, replicating the added weight of traditional wood and felt parts when the keys and pedal are pressed.

This innovation allows pianists to not only hear how the damper pedal affects the sound produced by the Novus, but also to feel the various mechanical interactions through their hands and feet.

Japan's leading piano

The spirit of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano is at the heart of the Novus NV6. Widely regarded as "Japan's premier piano," the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX graces the stages of concert halls and music institutions around the world, receiving universal acclaim for its superb tonal clarity and exceptional dynamic range.

Naturally expressive sound

To digitally reproduce the stunning tonal qualities of the Shigeru Kawai concert grand piano, the Novus NV6 incorporates Kawai's latest SK-EX rendering technology and includes the new SK-EX Competition Grand piano sound, specially recorded from the player's perspective and characterized by its bright, clear tone and distinctive touch. This new sound complements the warm tonal elegance of the existing SK-EX Concert Grand, with both piano types reproduced using Kawai's advanced multi-channel SK-EX rendering sound module.

This advanced piano sound module combines the established process of sampling with the modern approach of physical modeling to produce a piano sound that is both rich in natural acoustic character and dynamically responsive to the player's musical desires.

Advanced speaker system

This high-quality sound is conveyed through the NV6's powerful speaker system, which combines Kawai's exclusive soundboard technology with six high-quality speaker drivers. The result is a remarkably authentic playing experience that immerses the player and faithfully reproduces the tonal ambience of an acoustic piano.

The appearance of an acoustic piano

The Novus NV6's stunning high-gloss ebony cabinet is crafted in the same piano manufacturing facility as Kawai's 'K' series pianos, ensuring exceptional build quality and a flawless mirror-like finish.

Its external appearance is undoubtedly inspired by classical piano design, partly thanks to the elegant key cover and wide music stand, which convey a feeling of stability and security when sitting at the instrument.

However, this traditional character is refined and refreshed by the NV6's gently curved edge lines, elegantly tapered legs—free of the usual heavy toe blocks—and various other details that enhance and modernize the instrument's presence.

5-inch touchscreen

Functions are primarily controlled via the NV6's anti-reflective touchscreen LCD, discreetly embedded in the left side panel of the instrument. This high-resolution touchscreen allows you to adjust sounds and settings via an attractive user interface simply by tapping or swiping your finger.

For piano purists, the screen can be set to automatically fade out during play, preserving the classic appearance of the Novus and minimizing visual distractions for the player.

Connectivity

Unlike an acoustic piano, the Novus NV6 offers multiple ways to connect to other devices. The newly integrated USB-C port and built-in USB audio interface enable seamless, high-quality digital audio transmission to and from computers and smart devices via a single cable.

The NV6 even supports Bluetooth® MIDI and audio functionality, providing an effortless way to connect and use smart devices wirelessly.

Headphone and audio connections allow you to play the instrument in silence or amplify the sound for halls and other large spaces.
