Frederick L. Hemke reeds create a dark sound favored by many classical saxophonists and traditional jazz saxophonists. The design is specially tailored to traditional mouthpieces with a round sound chamber. In order to give the deep tones in particular more freedom of speech, the reeds are made with a French cut ("filed"). In addition, this reed shape enables a transparent tone and easy response.
